Workplace

It is your legal right to support, form, and/or advocate a Union at your workplace.  You do not need your Employer’s permission to become Unionized.  Remember, it’s the Employees that belong to the Union…..not the Employer.

In order for the Union to be recognized for Collective Bargaining, you must demonstrate to the Alberta Labour Relations Board that a majority of the employees wish to be represented by the Union.  This is accomplished by first signing a petition, or a Union Organizing Card, which is followed by a secret ballot vote, resulting in a 50% (plus one vote) outcome.  A successful vote will result in the Alberta Labour Relations Board certifying the Union as the official Bargaining Agent for the Employees.

Every Union company was non-union at one time, until the workers joined together and changed things for themselves by Organizing with a Union.
